# Bring your books into PolyAccounts

[Create a company](https://polyaccounts.com/signup) with its name, home currency and preferred plan. The normal company workspace supports real data and has no demo expiry. Use one company for each distinct set of books.

## On the website

1. Open **Settings** and confirm the company and home currency. Signup supplies a starter chart of accounts. Adjust accounts before importing.
2. Open **Import** and choose the supported bank or accounting export. Map dates, descriptions, amounts and accounts. Keep the original file as source evidence.
3. Review uncategorized items and duplicate candidates. Confirm debit and credit accounts before posting to the general ledger. Do not import an overlapping file twice to correct a mistake.
4. Bring in balanced opening entries at your chosen cutover date, or import supported historical activity. Do not load both overlapping history and opening balances for the same period.
5. Compare the opening balances, P&L and balance sheet against your prior books. Reconcile each bank and card balance to its statement. Report amounts drill into their underlying ledger entries.

Bank-file import is available. A bank's automatic connection and consent requirements depend on the configured provider. Retain source currency and conversion evidence when importing into your company's home currency.

## With an AI agent

A company administrator opens **Settings → For AI agents** and creates a credential with the permissions the job requires. Store it privately in a secret manager or a file readable only by your OS account. Never paste the credential into an agent prompt, source repository or chat.

Install the [CLI](https://polyaccounts.com/cli.md) or connect [MCP](https://polyaccounts.com/agents.md). Verify the company before importing. Use the live tool schemas from `polyaccounts tools describe TOOL --pretty`.

The import workflow is `preview_import`, `stage_import`, `categorize_import` when needed, then `post_import`. Preview does not write. Staged rows retain their source identifiers and revisions. Posting requires the current row revisions. Use a distinct idempotency key for each intended write, and reuse it when retrying the same operation. Amounts are exact decimal strings. Re-importing unchanged source rows identifies them as already imported.

Read `profit_loss`, `balance_sheet`, `balance_sheet` and `ledger_entries` to verify the result. Company isolation, closed periods, approval rules, payment controls and correction history apply to agents as well as people.

The optional sandbox is only for invented examples. It expires and deletes its data after seven days. Import your actual books into the normal company created through signup.
